This series of collaborative drawings came out of the Mintwood House in Pittsburgh, PA. As art critic Carrie Schneider described it, "Although they insist they’re 'a house, not a collective,' the practices of the Mintwood artists have undeniable roots in traditional art 'movements.' Weekly drawing parties recalls 1930s surrealist parlor games such as the 'exquisite corpse,' in which participants toyed with Freudian concepts of chance and free association by jointly creating a phrase or drawing without looking at what had been written previously on a piece of folded paper. By revealing its instant-gratification, constant-feedback processes, Mintwood lends insight into a successful collaboration, where like-minded artists symbiotically use each other as a source for creative and intellectual fuel."
